Special Peoples’ Holiday Cruise

The annual Special Peoples Cruise will take place on Sunday, December 6, at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma. This event is sponsored by Metropolitan Parks Tacoma, who solicit the help of local boaters to provide the key element in the event…boats!
The venue for this event was changed last year and the change puts the event squarely in TYC’s back yard. In the past, many TYC members did not participate because doing so meant taking their boat to Gig Harbor. Now the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak. It is incumbent upon TYC to pick up the slack as many of the Gig Harbor folks will now be hesitant to make the trip to Tacoma. Met Parks is counting on us, along with all other area boaters (regardless of yacht club affiliation or membership) to make the event a success.
The Seaport docks will be available to us all weekend. Last year, a number of boats arrived on Saturday night and we had a “pre-function” hosted by TYC. On Sunday, there will be a mandatory skipper’s meeting at 11:30 a.m. Guests will begin arriving at the Seaport at 1:30 p.m. It is anticipated that the cruise itself will depart at about 2:30 and last for a maximum of one hour. Once you have delivered your passengers back to the Seaport dock, you are free to leave.
Won’t you please consider volunteering your time and your boat? It will be, I promise you, one of the most heart-warming and worthwhile things you will ever do as a boater. If you have friends who are not members of an area club, invite them to participate, too! Please don’t hesitate to call me for more information and details.
