RULES:
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in 2009-2012 The Racing Rules of Sailing and the prescriptions of US Sailing, This Notice of Race, The Sailing Instructions, and USCG VTS Navigation Rules.
Eligibility:
Open to all sailboats with valid PHRF ratings certificates (RACING DIVISON), cruiser-type sailboats with or without spinnakers (CRUISER DIVISION), and one-design classes (OD DIVISION). All entries must be a member of a PIYA affiliated club and must meet PIYA Category III safety requirements.
Cruising class boats may apply for a temporary rating from the club handicapper,
Registration:
A completed registration form and entry fee must be in the possession of TYC’s Race Chairman by 0900 on race day. Entry Fee: $10
Safety requirements:
PIYA Category III- Except that any single or double-handed crews must wear a PFD at all times.
Changes to the Sailing Instructions:
Changes will be posted on the notice board at Tacoma Yacht Club before 0900 February 21st.
Skippers Meeting:
Skippers meeting will be held at 0900 February 21, in the TYC Clubhouse.
Sailing instructions will be available on the day of the race at the Tacoma Yacht Club.
Class Flags, Rating Breaks and Starting order
Class A: Up to 95 PHRF Class F: CRUISER (FS & NFS):
Class B: 96 – 145 Class M: Multihull:
Class C: 146 – above
Boats will start under their class flag, rating breaks and starting order changes will be posted at the TYC Clubhouse Bulletin Board and announced at the skippers meeting.
Start Time:
Warning for classes A&B, 1055, Subsequent Classes may start in 5 minute intervals following the preceding class.
Scoring:
Low point scoring will be used for this race.
Radio Communication:
Race committee will monitor VHF channel 72 during the race. Competitors must notify the race committee of early withdrawal from the race.
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
Course:
Races will be around the buoy style races run in Quartermaster harbor. Race courses will be defined in the sailing instructions.
Changes to the Sailing Instructions:
Changes will be posted on the notice board at Tacoma Yacht Club before 0900 February 21.
Protests:
Protests MUST be delivered IN PERSON to Race Chairs Jon Thompson or Burr Hope prior to 2 hours after the finish of the last yacht.
Please notify the Race Committee of your intent to protest upon crossing the finish line.
Trophies:
Trophies for first, second and third places will be awarded for each class.
Post Race Function:
All competitors are welcome at the Tacoma Yacht Club after the race for a no-host bar.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.
