Tacoma Yacht Club
What is Focus on Sailing (FOS)? TYC’s adult sailing program designed to increase sailing opportunities for TYC member participants of all ages and skill levels, provide easy, inexpensive access to sailing, improve sailing and racing skills, and create opportunities for quality time on the water with friends and families.
The Program Boat is a Cal 20 which is popular both as a competitive and fun one-design racer, as well as a stable and forgiving day sailor. The beauty of the Cal 20 is its simplicity; it can be raced with just two people in lighter air and three people in moderate to heavier winds. The Cal 20 offers something to every sailor, from the landlubber beginner to the seasoned salt. The program owns five Cal 20s for checkout on a first come first serve basis (program will start with three and build up to five as boats are repaired and outfitted).
Who should Participate? Beginners wanting to learn to sail, novices wanting to improve skills, families looking for an occasional outing, experienced sailors looking to race and hone skills, crew wanting skipper experience, in short, anyone who wants to have fun on the water!
