In 1992 a nucleus of active Tacoma Yacht Club members and area sailors set out to create a new opportunity for the young people of our area.  Our Junior Program was a dream, and following a few formative years, it was about to really happen.  With lots of planning, many hours of discussion and good humored arm twisting, as a result of the generosity of many, the fleet of Lasers and El Toro's were ordered and the TYC Junior Program Association sprang to life.  In a flurry of activity that Spring, instructors were found, "Whalers" were procured and the classes at Wollochet Bay began with incredible success.

Since that first session, more than 2500 young people have enrolled for our classes.  We have expanded our fleet, employed more instructors and continue to upgrade our equipment.  As we plan for the Summer of 2007, our enthusiasm and commitment continue.  We simply want to provide an exceptional experience for the young people in the region.  Whether you are new to the sport or a returning skipper, we welcome you and your interest in sailing.
