Predicted Log Races

A predicted log contest has the great virtue of being simple in basic concept --- it is a competition in piloting a vessel over a prescribed course in a time predicted by each contestant, without access to any means of determining elapsed time. The contest closely simulates the conditions encountered in actual piloting, where safe arrival at a destination may require the navigator to strive accurately to assess and compensate for wind, current, uncontrolled speed variations and other elements that may introduce errors.  It is a good feeling to know that you have the expertise to apply your knowledge of navigation.  Log racing gives you the confidence and understanding of your vessel to arrive safely at your destination.

The International Power Boat Association (IPBA) is the governing body for predicted log contests in Washington and British Columbia.  The South Sound, North Sound and Gulf of Georgia regions each sponsor six events per year.  In addition, there is an International race held, this year in the Gulf Islands at Maple Bay.  The North American Cruisers Association (NACA) invites skippers from North America to compete in the Invitational Predicted Log Contest help at different locations each Summer.

Contact one of the T.Y.C. team and be a part of a winning team that thoroughly enjoys boating.  Most events are on a Saturday and provide an opportunity to go boating at many different locations and meet fellow boaters from other clubs.
