This will be a spot to share information on other Grand 14 events.

I received the following email in mid-November:

Dear 'Web Captain':

The Bremerton Yacht Club is presently trying to inject some new life into log racing and our own "Heavy Weather" race.

Heavy Weather is one of the oldest and largest navigational log tests in the Pacific Northwest as well as on the West Coast. Since its inception in the early thirties, a variety of social activities accompanied the actual race. Thus, the turnout of boats and participants has always far exceeded  the number of crews and boats participating in the actual race (the number of registered boats reached 159 in 1970, the number of individuals coming to the race breakfast once exceeded 700).

Next year, 2006, will see the 72nd Heavy Weather event. As usual, it takes place over the Presidents' Weekend, February 17-20. The actual race will be held on Sunday, 19 February.  The BYC WebTeam has convinced the organizing committee to make the BYC Web site the "Information Center"  for the event (see bremertonyachtclub.org/heavy_weather/06/infocenter.html). Thus, both the organizing committee and the WebTeam are interested in any and all links from the Web sites of Puget Sound area clubs to this "Information Center" in order to ensure an effective distribution of useful and accurate event-related information. To make the point that accurate information is not easy to come by, let me point out that several yacht clubs and even the IPBA Website as of today are posting the 18th instead of the correct 19th of February 2006 as the day of the actual race during the 2006 Heavy Weather weekend (Please correct!).

Of course, our WebTeam is not just interested in promoting log racing and the Heavy Weather event, but also in improving the cooperation among area  clubs' Websites thereby helping each other to "spread the word" about our activities and concerns and to promote recreational boating in the region. Thus, as a start, the BYC WebTeam has all intentions to do for future activities of your club what we are asking you to do for our Heavy Weather festivities.

Thank you &  virtually yours,

Gunter Krumme
