Chaplain's Corner

Although poorly attended by TYC members, our annual Memorial Service was greatly appreciated by the family members present.  Thanks to Richard Liebe and Pete Williams for the outstanding job they did in organizing this event.   With a warm, sunny, spring evening, Commodore Steve Keller and Shipmates President Etta Hill said our final farewell to:

Hopefully, next year more of you will come to honor the wonderful people who have given so much of their time to making Tacoma Yacht Club the outstanding organization it is today.

Please remember that if you are a veteran and able to wear your uniform, please do so for our Memorial Service at Eagle Harbor on Monday, May 31st.   This service will honor all military veterans, as well as those currently serving.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your chaplain this year.  It has been an honor.  Have a wonderful summer cruising our Puget Sound waters and may God always be a passenger aboard your vessel.  God bless you!

A Traveler Coming Home

By Karen Ravn

A traveler ventured forth one day

Upon a long and winding road
With faith and trust to lead the way,
With strength and will to bear his load.
And at a slow but steady pace,

In cold of storm, in warmth of sun,

He journeyed on from place to place

And gained some value from each one.

Until at last one quiet night,

He climbed a hill’s soft-rounding crest

And saw afar a single light,

That seemed to promise peace and rest.

And following its glow, he came

Upon the house in which it shone.

A voice inside called out his name

And told him he was truly home

During the month of March, Marion Alice McEachron rejoined her husband of 52 years, in our Lord’s Heavenly mansion.  She passed peacefully away in her sleep on March 11th, at the age of 88.  She and John joined Tacoma Yacht Club in 1948 and were very active in their younger years.  Marion was a TYC senior member, as well as, a life member of Shipmates.   Her three daughters and their families will miss her greatly, as will all those will knew her.

John Van Leuven died February 23rd at the age of 89.  He and his family joined our club in 1953.  John was a retired Tacoma School District principal, who spent many summers cruising in the San Juan Islands and the Canadian waters with him family aboard their boat the MarMar.  He will be remembered as a very generous, caring and loving person who was devoted to his family.

Harold T. Rock was born June 4, 1913 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 27th.  In addition to boating, he enjoyed piano music and dancing.  Harold and his wife were the proud owners of a 1929 Cable-Nelson Baby Grande, which they sold to Bill Legacy and e still owns.  According to Bill, the were "absolutely delightful people to know and work with.  They were also long time members of St. Patrick's Parish."
